Circular Lighting and Sustainable Hospitality featured by arcguide
Studio De Schutter has been featured by arcguide with an in depth look at the lighting concept for the Coreum Hotel in Stockstadt am Rhein. The article highlights how sustainable lighting design, flexibility, and architectural clarity can work together to create hospitality spaces that feel both functional and emotionally engaging.
Developed in collaboration with Atelier 522 and Freiraumconcept, the project reflects a holistic approach to lighting design. Across the hotel, Studio De Schutter created a concept that responds to the identity of the Coreum campus while supporting well being, orientation, and flexibility throughout the day.
A key focus of the project lies in long term sustainability. In the upper floors, only luminaires with replaceable light sources were used to simplify maintenance and reduce waste over time. Energy efficient LED technology, adaptive lighting scenes, and dim to warm systems allow the atmosphere to shift naturally between breakfast, work, relaxation, and evening dining.
The lighting concept also plays with contrast. Soft, rounded luminaires were intentionally selected against the raw architectural material palette of concrete, stone, and metal. Warm light introduces calmness and comfort into the precisely structured spaces while maintaining the architectural clarity of the project.
In the public areas, Studio De Schutter developed sculptural lighting installations for the lobby and bar that combine functional flexibility with a strong visual identity. Carefully positioned light islands create intimacy within the large open spaces, supporting both orientation and a sense of retreat.
The article also explores the project’s environmental strategy. Warm exterior light colors between 2200K and 2700K help reduce light pollution and minimize impact on wildlife, while intelligent timer systems synchronize indoor and outdoor lighting to optimize energy consumption.
The result is a hospitality project where architecture, sustainability, and atmosphere are designed as one connected experience.
