Circular Thinking Meets Corporate Identity featured by HIGHLIGHT
In HIGHLIGHT (01–02/2026), Studio De Schutter is featured with a project that explores how circular thinking and corporate identity can be combined through lighting design. The article examines how existing luminaires can be transformed into a contemporary, high-quality lighting concept—without compromising on atmosphere, design, or technical performance.
Within the project, Studio De Schutter developed a holistic lighting strategy for a shared showroom and workspace by Office Group and Ahrend in Düsseldorf. The concept follows a clear ambition: sustainability without a visible “eco aesthetic.” Existing luminaires were reinterpreted, upgraded, and repositioned to create a flexible environment that transitions seamlessly between workplace, showroom, and event space. Light becomes the key element that enables these shifts—supporting what the studio defines as “Corpitality.”
A central aspect of the concept lies in the transformation of existing lighting systems. Instead of replacing them, Studio De Schutter reworked the luminaires both technically and visually. Through an innovative foil-based adaptation process, the fixtures were redefined in appearance while remaining fully reversible and resource-efficient. This approach significantly reduces energy consumption and preserves material separability, aligning with circular design principles.
The project follows a clear hierarchy: reduce, reuse, and only replace where necessary. Existing luminaires were upgraded with modern LED technology, improving light quality to warm 3000K with high color rendering (CRI 95) and flicker-free performance. At the same time, adaptive control systems enable different lighting scenarios—from focused work to hospitality-driven evening events—ensuring maximum flexibility across all use cases.
