Dynamic white

D

Dynamic white lighting or also called “tunable white” is one of the technical advantages of LED lighting. In contrast to conventional lighting sources, a dynamic white light source, often an LED strip or COB can vary its light colour from daylight-like cold white to candle-like warm white, e.g. 2700K white lighting.

As lighting consultants, we recommend dynamic white lighting in spaces that get used throughout the day and the evening, spaces that need to be multifunctional and adaptable, or spaces with low natural light intake.

Tunable white or dynamic white lighting is different from the dim to warm technology (link to dim to warm) because one can control both the light colour (colour temperature) and the light intensity separately.

Tip from a lighting designer

At Studio De Schutter, we have planned common spaces in offices with tunable white lighting. With this solution, the ambiance in the space ist in line with daylight during lunch hours and the same space can transform into an after-work venue, with dimmed and warm lighting in the evening.
