Dim to warm
Dim to warm or also called warm dim is the characteristic of a light source, mainly LED to change its colour temperature (link) to change when being dimmed down.
It is one of these technological advancements in LED technology that many had been waiting for as it emulates the way conventional incandescent or halogen lamps turned warmer when dimmed down The general assumption, or at least what we lighting designers heard from clients, was that LED lighting is regarded as cold light. The dim to warm technology changes this. When the light source is dimmed, the light colour becomes warmer and shifts from neutral warm (e.g. 3000K, or 2700K) towards 2000K, very warm light.
Tip from a lighting designer
As lighting designers, we love dim to warm light sources as they make a space multifunctional. Imagine a living room on a Saturday afternoon in winter; you might want bright light at first, but when it gets dark or you’re entertaining, you want to create that cosy atmosphere with dimmed and warm light.
Warm dimming light sources only require one channel dimming and are from a lighting controlling perspective very easy.
