Halftime: 50% day 50% night
Halftime: 50% day 50% night
It’s halftime! Our days are 50% day and 50% night. Or at least in terms of daylight. Are you ready for the second half of the year?
From tomorrow the nights will be getting longer than the days, as it is the equinox on the 23th of September. Good artificial lighting but, also good (day)lighting habits can help to forgo winter blues.
One of these good habits is to take in enough daylight. For the ones following our studio on Instagram (if not check @studiodeschutter), you know that Sabine loves sunsets. As a lighting designer, our work is largely inspired by natural lighting effects and phenomena we see around us. But these sunsets are not just beautiful. Light impacts our circadian rhythm, mood and energy level. Taking in enough daylight is essential. Artificial lighting could compensate the lack of daylight, but very few systems are actually designed to do so. Mainly because the awareness is not there (yet).
Light is too often regarded as something that only enables us to see. The wrong lighting at the wrong time, can however reduce our sleep quality and disrupt our circadian rhythm in general.
With aweress around light you can forgo winter blues. And the best: Take in the daylight as much as you can. It’s the best! 🌞
