Adaption (visual)
(Visual) adaptation is the temporary change in sensitivity or perception when exposed to a new (more or less intense) stimulus, and the lingering afterimage that may result when the stimulus is removed.
Tip from a lighting designer
When designing the lighting of a space, we take into account the transitions between darker and brighter spaces. For example between a corridor with lower lighting levels and brighter office spaces. Or when going from a well-lit museum space to a darker one or even a light art installation.
