Lights in Alingsås 2016

Since 2000, every autumn,  lighting design workshops have been taking place in a small city in the south of Sweden. Through this Alingsås gained recognition in the lighting design world and quickly became a leading light event in northern Europe.

How did they do this? The “Lights in Alingsås” event consists purely of educational lighting design workshops lead by professional lighting designers, who share their knowledge and expertise with participants from all over the world. All installations are site specific and created via co-creation process between participants, the workshop head and with equipment that is sponsored by well-known lighting manufacturers.

This year Sabine De Schutter was invited to lead a team of 10 students on the largest workshop site ever. A challenge she took on with great pleasure.

After a week of hard work, distributing hundreds meters of cable, placing over 500 kg of fixtures and many litres of pouring rain, our installation opened to the public in the beginning of October. Our lighting installation will stay on until the 6th of November, so there is still a change to pay it a visit.
