Arc Magazine on bright ideas for innovation space Spielfeld Digital Hub
With several months of lockdown behind us, some are going gradually back to the office, others mix home-office with on site meetings.
For the lasted issue of Arc magazine, Editor Matt Warring talked with us about how lighting can be an enabler in innovation spaces.
In the beginning of every project, we work with tools from design thinking. We aim to understand the core of our users' needs. The brief of Digital Spielfeld Hub was to create a space that promotes innovation. Our key takeaway from the design session with the client was the need for flexibility, as innovation is an unpredictable, agile process that requires adaptability.
Following this, we worked on a lighting design concept that allows the user to easily adapt their space. Our lighting solution is an infrastructure which they can adapt and expand. We carefully selected positions of tracks and spots and choose elements that are compatible with a wide variety of brands to allow for expansion in a later stage. The dimming system works over Bluetooth allowing the user to set profiles and give access to different people. They can dim the light or set scenes.
“Innovation is an unpredictable, agile process that requires adaptability. From an architectural and lighting point of view, this is allowing the user to adapt their space.”
In this project, it was clear from the start that the client wanted to differentiate themselves from the usual Berlin start-up co-working space, not the coffee shop style bare bulbs or the usual office-like lighting. This totally matches with our core mission! We aim to create workspaces that positively affect peoples lives and this we do by combining functional, architectural and atmospherical lighting with a pinch of creativity because #creativityisourcurrency ;)
