Emergency Lighting
Emergency lighting is the back up lighting provided in case the energy supply from the grid and thus the normal lighting fails. There are different types of emergency lighting systems. The most common are those installed in addition to the normal lighting, with additional fixtures in the space. Lighting designers can help where non-conventional solutions are required. This could be combining emergency and normal lighting within a single fixture; either for aesthetic reasons, or because of requirements for listed buildings.
Tip from a lighting designer
In projects like Burg Vischering we, at Studio De Schutter have planned lighting fixtures with double functionality to reduce the number of fixtures in the historical fortress. The fixtures fulfil all the requirements for emergency lighting, like the ability to work on AC and DC power. Even the emergency lighting labels were custom designed in this project.
Aesthetical and architectural integrated emergency lighting is possible, ask a lighting designer.
