CIE
CIE is the abbreviation for the Commission Internationale de l´Eclairage (International Commission on Illumination), an organization which collects all related information about lighting, weather sky conditions, colour and vision, photobiology and image technology. The CIE publish the standard for daylight ISO 15469:2004(E) and CIE S 011/E:2003 for contributions to daylight design, which emphasise the importance of integrating natural light into architecture for enhanced well-being and productivity.
Tip from a lighting designer
As lighting design studio, we use CIE models for designing daylight and shading systems for buildings. This involves harvesting and harnessing natural daylight and sunlight to optimize energy efficiency and wellbeing in indoor spaces. For our project Impact Hub Berlin, we used daylight studies not only to improve artificial lighting quality and scene-setting, but also to help the architects choosing materials to optimised daylight in the space.
